![]() There are certain moments in any story where the protagonist or hero must decide whether to persevere under the most trying of circumstances, or turn back, subjecting him or herself to a life without the purpose that was set forth when they started that journey. The weight and stress of this moment in the story is a pivotal time. We all just assume that the hero with continue, but when we relate this moment to our own lives, we have to wonder what choice we would make. That epic battle that decides the fate of the world can be comparable to a battle against cancer, the success of a business, or deciding whether to continue a marriage. The question that I ask myself is, "are you going to accept the challenges that you have set forth in your hero's journey, or quit the quest that has given purpose to your life." There are no right answers to this question, only whether you're willing to accept the outcome. I say follow that bliss; that path which makes you feel alive, and never give in or give up on your dream. ![]() Here is a list of organizations that do paid reviews for self-published novels, along with the cost. There is also a section that lists different book contests. If you know of any additional review or award organizations, please put them into the comment section and I will add them to the list.

So, book two in the Sonora Series (Sonora, and the Scroll of Alexandria) will be released at the end of this or the first of next year (January/February 2014). As an author, its very easy to take bad reviews to heart. They dig inside you like a cancer, and destroy creativity. You start doubting your ability to express yourself and your characters. A bad review can close you off to the world. The reality is that every author has received a bad review. In fact, some of the most acclaimed writers have received scathing reviews. Here are a few: Lord of the Flies "an absurd and uninteresting fantasy which was rubbish and dull." The Great Gatsby "This is a book of the season only" No one will ever receive 100% praise for their work. You will always have critics. What you need to decide is whether taking that next step is worth it. Do you really want a career as a writer? If the answer is yes, than the only one inhibiting you from realizing your dream is yourself. From this point forward, you take every review, find the worth in it, and become that much better. |
